Great post that accurately describes the Turbo. I've been driving the same N. Georgia roads since 1998; Boxster, Boxster S, and 996 Turbo. Your comments comparing the Turbo and Boxster are spot on; my Turbo is more fun in the mountain twisties than either Boxster I owned. In terms of cornering, it is every bit as capable and accurate from turn-in to apex, and it is way better post apex. The brakes are much better.

I’ve had my 2002 Turbo X50 since April of 13, but this weekend was the first time I’ve actually “driven” it. I know, I know, that’s terribly lame. But an abundance of travel combined with my refusal to drive hard in the mountains during cycling season have kept me confined to a few after dark blasts around a few semi-rural roads a half-hour from my home.
But Saturday morning I left the house at 6:30 headed for a wonderful set of roads an hour north of me in the Georgia mountains.

Disclaimer: At no time did I actually exceed any of the posted speed limits in any of the fine counties I may or may not have passed through in this entirely fictional journey.

I'm in Johns Creek (between Alpharetta & Duluth). Thanks for the compliment on the car. And... uhhh... yeah, sure, yep, kept her at 35 or under the entire way.

Love the mountains...... Been a long time since I've been up there, but it's a lot of fun. Thinking about picking up another 996 TT in the future for a street car. Best car I've owned.
This is the Charohala Skyway near the Tail of the Dragon, best road I've ever driven

I have to add - reading this, made me want a turbo....
wife said something about a newer red Cab and selling her Black '00.... maybe I can talk her into staying into 996 and a turbo <g> (then I would NEVER get the keys!)
but I do like the looks of the 997 headlights - thanks for the good report.

Then you're well-familiar with the roads I took on this run. Out of Dahlonega I took 60 towards Suches, right through Wolfpen Gap, left at Vogle and then right onto 180 and did Jacks and Unicoi Gaps, then looped around to do Hogpen Gap (twice -- it's wicked in both directions!), and then up over Neal's Gap and back to Dahlonega.

LOL, last weekend I needed to run up to Highlands to winterize the cabin. Got to Clayton and decided to take Warwoman into SC, then 28 up to Highlands rather than the usual route. Never saw a single car on Warwoman.

heck we have some of the best roads in the country right here in our back yard!
