Nope, the turbo being a derivative of the GT1 race engine is totally different! The engines with the IMS issues are the M96, and the M97 found in non turbo cars. The GT1, GT2, and Turbo are not in the equation.

Turbos, GT3s and GT2s use a different engine which does not have the IMS issues.

thakyou, by the way I have a 99 996 coupe for sale and am thinking about cancelling my subsciption to autoweek. My luck is at least consistent, I once owned an 84 audi 5000 turbo and saw the resale value destroyed by BS story on 60 Minutes

People on here were simply saying that those problems don't apply to 996 Turbos because they don't have the M96 motor. But Autoweek didn't say they do.
Not sure why you want to "shoot the messenger."

If you have a na 996, get the LN engineering bearing or the IMS solution installed.

Why cancel a subscription to Autoweek for them simply telling the truth?!

I doubt it given that 02 cars and earlier have different variocams and different ECUs to match. Paint me skeptical.

although true for a small % of cars, to put it out in a Natl. magazine creates a percepetion that the cars are crap and as a 996 owner this is going to cost me money , therfore I am not happy with Autoweek. I have driven my car hard on tracks all over the midwest with no problems, it is far quicker and less trouble than all the air cooled 911s I have owned, I just hate to see them get a bad rap.

And you may want to look in the N/A 996 forum for the most accurate information on your 99 NA car.

Since you have a 99 NA 996 the turbo forum is not the best place to look for information on this specific car. The article in Autoweek is not that big deal, the IMS/RMS issue is very well known by just about everyone in the Porsche world.

I know, I also have a 996tt, the article creates a bad image of the car among the general public
or potential buyers of my 996 is my point , and once the water is poisoned it is never the same.
