mine *can* cycle on/off up to 3 x after shutdown for a cpl mins in very hot outdoor ambient temps. it is NOT normal for the decklid fan to stay on for thirty min's at a time. it also may activate in warm temps at startup, but not always.

That's my experience.

Just so it is clear: In an earlier post I didn't mean the fan came on and ran for 30 minutes.

What I meant was in some cases -- real hot days in which I had just finished some around town driving with the car -- I've come back to the car after it has been off 30 minutes (or maybe more) and heard the compartment fan running. But I'm sure it was not running the whole time from when I switched the engine off to when I returned to the car.

your post was clear to me and accurate, near as i can tell. i believe it was carlos' post that asserted the fan stays on for 30 mins. perhaps his does, but that isn't ( as you know.. ) "normal".

It should always run when the engine is running.

perhaps it does. i have never noticed that. but i'm mostly driving with the engine on, so i tend to be more focused on the other nicer sounds and notice the fan only when stopped.

I don't actually hear the fan when the engine is running as my exhaust sound covers that noise. But I have on many occasions gotten out of the car with the engine running and noticed (visually) that the fan is running. Additionally, Porsche states that the fan is supposed to run when the engine is running.

agreed. i have noticed it lately myself as there was a strange "ticking" sound, which turned out to be some pine tree bits that slid in between the decklid into the fan. ( think cards in bicycle wheels ) i remove them as they also compete with the note of my fvd exhaust

Just to be clear. My fan does cycle on and off, it has not stayed on constantly for 30 minutes, but it has stayed on for almost 20 minutes after a half hour run on a race track in August heat. And as Doc posted. It is possible for the fan to cycle or stay on constantly for 40 minutes after engine shut down.

It's comforting to know our cars operate as intended.
I read that yours stayed on for 30 minutes and I interpreted that as continuously.
