New Stereo & GPS Nav Installed (Pics)
Here is a pic of the new sound system and nav unit. I had to bring my 996 into the current century. This unit fits the 996 perfectly.

Nice upgrade for the 996. I may do this one day; still currently enjoying the Speedtech music. Radio is mostly in the OFF position.

Mario from INVIUS (the local installer here in Montgomery County) did an awesome job. I highly recommend him.

Thats a nice unit. Nice install. I looked at that one and the Alpine. Always thought Pioneer was well done and with the built in amp does provide better sound. I opt'd to just add the Dension 500 unit and will have it in next week and use the stock radio as a control. Hard to use BT in these cars - loud exhuast and for me with the cab makes for very little BT use and honestly like just getting a way once and a while
I agree on keeping the stock stuff handy for resale. Offer car with our without. That unit should be fairly timeless with all its features.

Yes---OEM Bose speakers and Bose sub. He rewired the rear sub to make it all work. Sometimes (he said) the rear sub will cut out if too much is pushed through the system without a larger amp. But, he rewired things so that it wouldn't do that. It sounds really good and has plenty of BASS boom. I might do better speakers and an Alpine amp later down the line. But, the system AS IS sounds excellent. Not sure my ears could detect high-end speakers anymore.

i guess you already had the nav setup in your car? im going to have to convert mine. my has a single din stereo and the heater controls up top. i must say for a high end car this is the worst sounding stereo i have ever had!

I agree...my AMG Benz sucked, too. But the head unit makes a world of difference. It gives you a bit more tuning options and power over the OEM unit. The built in amp has a bit more juice over the OEM Porsche unit. The new system is nice...without going overboard. It is an upgrade...but better speakers would be a bonus. Yes, I had the GPS and it uses the same antenna slot in the dash. He just ran a new antenna.

The install, head unit, Bluetooth microphone, and all parts (for my iPhone/iPod) was $1700. The unit has a built in amplifier and sounds much better than the OEM unit. I like it because it will synch with my iPhone and play the music on it as an aux drive---very convenient.
