Default More Maintenance and A Mod

Having encountered some issues over the past few months, I had the car in for some service work:

1. Replaced oil pressure sending unit with Porsche part.
2. Replaced diverter valves with Bosch 710N.
3. Replaced tappet solenoid brackets on both banks.

Also had an X73 suspension installed. I purchased the system used from a Rennlister. I shipped the rear shocks to Bilstein for rebuild, and purchased new X73 specific shock mounts (996-343-980-15/16), and new bump stops before install. Haven't put a lot of miles on it, but I like it a lot even without an alignment.

Hopefully 2013 will bring more miles and less maintenance.

Sounds good.

I'm a bit taken aback by reading that while you changed the suspension you have not yet aligned the car. if this is right I would make the comment the suspension change over is only half done.

While the alignment could be ok, spot on in fact -- if one still believes in miracles -- the odds are it is not ok. While the car may not feel out of alignment I suspect the tires are taking a real beating.

Agree on the alignment - its not a daily driver - I've only driven it about 25 miles since I got it back (2 days ago). And absent other suggestion, I'm going to have dealer align (quoted $380 - high ?).

Don't wait too long on the alignment. I ate a set of rear tires in about 75 miles after installing my x73. Most of that was driving to the alignment shop.

Mine drove great as well before the alignment.

$380 for an alignment is high but unfortunately par for the course based on my very recent experience.

At a dealer the other day I had new front tires installed on my Turbo and had the car aligned and the cost of the alignment was $349.

I've gotten some breaks in the past on alignments, sometimes getting one for less than half that cost say after buying a set of new tires, but not this time. I did get a discount on the new tires. They listed at $328/each but I was charged $262.40/each.

Did you also install the stiffer motor mounts that came with the X73 package?

My dealer can't do corner weighting, can others? Maybe the X73 doesn't need that.

I'd find an alignment shop that you local Porsche Club recommends. I paid 360 for full alignment and corner weighting, so that sounds high to me.

I got mine done for $180 at an Indy shop. No corner weighting possible on the X73. I have 6000 miles since and the rear insides are only showing about 1/2 wear. I think I'll get 12 to 14 out of them. The fronts look almost new.

Forgot to mention that I also had a new Interstate battery installed after 3 years.

Car is at dealer now getting aligned to X73 specs.

Pics - shocks almost look brand new:
