When in terms of miles on the car, should this be replaced?

IIRC the belt is scheduled to be replaced every 60K miles.

It is a good idea to inspect this every service checking for premature degradation -- missing segments in the small V ribs, signs the belt edges are rubbing or just anything out of the ordinary. (It was a sharp inner edge of my Boxster's belt that helped me diagnose a failing water pump.)

The idler rollers and tensioner rollers do not have a service schedule.

I bought a complete set shortly after I bought my new Boxster in 02 and still have the set in a plastic bag in the trunk of the car.

In the case of the Turbo an idler bearing got noisy at around 40K miles and was replaced under CPO warranty but aside from that, and having the belt replaced as a precaution, the Turbo has not needed any other attention in this area and now has over 103K miles.

Don't let your delicious day turn into a downer due to a broken belt. Your 996T serpentine belt powers all accessories: alternator, water pump, ac compressor, and power steering pump. Lose it and you walk.

That's why we've packaged a preventive maintenance kit with everything needed to install a fresh belt (and a massive dose of confidence). Our online pdf shows you how.
