That is an excellent point. When I did 2.5 mach at +45,000 feet, there was nothing visually exiting about it. On the other hand, going very fast at very low altitude, especially in mountainous areas where there is dirt above you (flying in fairly narrow valleys between ranges), it's visually an extremely intense experience. It's also very intense because of how close you are to vaporization should you have even a very momentary lapse in focus on flying the jet.

I get what the OP is saying. I have the same problem with my car. It's so intoxicating to redline the car through the gears. The problem is redline in 3rd gear is 105 which can easily be done in roads where the speed limit is 40mph. The other problem too is you don't get much sensation of speed. This was mentioned when Jeremy Clarkson first reviewed the 996 turbo on top gear. When you feel like you're going fast, you're really going too fast.
In retrospect, I would have gotten the 997 c2s over the 996 x50. 997 has nicer exterior, nicer interior, i prefer the exhaust note, and it's probably a better daily driver in that you can get your speed fix and not worry about hitting 100+ all the time.
