I think the 996 is following the depreciation curve of every other Porsche before it, and the 997 is right behind it.

Not all those before it, my Turbo 3.6 had a 20% dip in the years after I bought it but is close to the nominal price I paid in 2001.

As for the M96 issues. I bought the 996 TT because research showed it doesn't have the same engine.

6 turbo market remains flat at $40-60 (which is where it was 2.5 years ago when I bought mine).
7.1 turbo market is about $70-90.
Supply and demand dictates price.
Porsche made a lot of these cars and continues to make the 7.2 turbo.

964 turbo, 993 turbo, 911 turbo are totally different markets (and I have no knowledge of values).

Makes no sense to me either. Most every one of us, at some time, will sell our car, and I'm sure most will want to get top dollar for it.

i Paid 56k for my 2003 turbo with 14k miles on it and some very nice add ons Including kw coilovers, oz ultraleggra rims with brand new ps2's, full 3m clear bra, complete alpine stereo, epl 1.2 bar tune. I feel I got a good deal. What do you think?

A "good" deal is in the eye of the beholder! If you are satisfied and happy with your car, then I agree! I got my '01 for considerably less than that, but it had been wrecked and repaired. There are those who would never have a "junk" car like mine, but I am perfectly happy with it, particularly on track days!

I've had offers for straight trade for my 930 in Canada.

Already tried the 996tt from a friend and really liked it. At that time was racing a 1997 dsm.
After a few pulls in the 996tt with my wife she said, isn't your car a lot faster? Lol. At that time it was in the 1/4 mile.

I ask my wife if a 996tt would be nice. She said, that ugly car? Is that a boxster...

I really don't care and think the 996tt is the best money can buy.

It is hard to believe but it does. I remember watching an old episode of Top Gear and Clarkson was reviewing a C4S with a factory Turbo look aero kit and one of things he said about it was that it had the same 3.6 engine as the Turbo just without the turbos.

People just don't know it is a completely different engine.

The headlights also play a role, many people just don't like them.

I do not have data but do believe some people put no effort into the buying process and would assume the engine problems are across the board.Also believe its the sheep mentality of I do not like the headlights because they are different attitude, I like them lol.I have no data lol but believe most Porsche buyers are short time owner/buyers and think of reasale as a high priority.

From a buyer perspective, I hope the prices keep dropping, maybe I'll teach my wife to drive stick and get her own 996tt, lol.

When I sold my white x50, the market was fairly lower than it is now. Had I waited another year, I could have sold it for 5-7k more. However, I did pick up my current 996tt for a good price, granted it had a bit more miles, but it had some modifications that I appreciate.

I educated myself on the engine differences (RMS failures in the non-turbos), and researched the boards before hopping into my first one. What I will say is, the 996tt has been better to me than any car I've owned that's performed at a similar level.

The only data I have is prices for 993s are comparably higher as are prices for 997.1s.

I also spoke with a very experienced long time used Porsche dealer who told me he will not touch a first generation non-turbo 996 because "they are terrible cars and nobody wants them". He then went on to recommend the 996TTs because their values were depressed by the non-turbo 996s and the unconventional headlights.

Based on this conversation and some other research I bought a 996TT (not from the dealer I spoke with but from a private seller) and am totally happy with it.
