Contemplating 996 Turbo

the "02x50 w the factory aero kit in that autotrader ad? it wouldn't be a bad idea to find out why the engine needed to be replaced. that is certailny covered under warranty for two years from date of replecement. i would think, if it's a factory replacement. easycare and fidelity are reputable aftermarket waranties, from what i've read.

Cut/Paste from the 2002 996TT Technik published by Porsche:
"Bodyshell 911 Turbo/911 GT2
Extensive reinforcement measures in sill, roof frame and seat pan area increase the flectional and torsional
strength by a further 25%.
The bodyshell has been modified in various areas for model upgrade purposes.
The B-post has been modified to take the new belt tensioner and belt-force limiter. In the tunnel and seat pan
area, an additional tube with side support has been fitted for lateral reinforcement.
A reinforcement tube has also been fitted in the side of the roof frame."

The techs I talk to about aftermarket warranties tell me some warranty companies can be a real pain to deal with.
The warranty company claims adjuster is there asking a zillion questions to try to find a reason -- legitimate reason (abuse, lack of proper car, mod's, etc.) -- to deny the claim.
The techs are your rep in a warranty claim for they'll be asked their opinion regarding the problem and the claim.
In almost all cases the tech is on the side of the customer, but they will not hide the truth or lie.
The techs deal with many cars many customers that have the same or similar warranty.
If a tech gets a rep for misstating the facts -- all it takes is for the tech to be found out once -- for every claim after the adjuster will be suspicious of the tech and this causes problems for every warranty claim from then on.
The dealer can lose its reputation and business from this and this is not easily repairable.
Ask your techs what they think of warranty XYZ and what they would recommend you do to help ensure if you ever had to make a warranty claim that the claim is honored.
Lay the ground work for a successful warranty claim *before* you have to file for a claim.
Sincerely,
Macster.

can't say it helped, but it sure didn't hurt
re warranties: i bought a turbo from one of the largest dealerships by volume in the US and the service manager told me they deal with easycare warranty and consider them to be among the best aftermarket warranty providers. i've never had anything other than a factory porsche warranty and it has saved me many thousands of dollars on many separate occasions. well worth any premium you pay, imo.

The dealer talked me into a Gold Fidelity 4/48 policy which I was not going to get until I noticed the 100% refund within 30 days. Knowing I was going on this trip, I said sure and wrote a separate check.

I bought the one at International Porsche in WI Monday night, left WI with it this morning for a 6000 mile driving vacation. Put 650 miles and a similar amount of bugs on it today. Averaged 74 MPH and 23.8 MPG today according to the computer.
