Default alarm problem 996 turbo

hi!

I've had some problems with my 996 turbo 2001..
the alarm sets off on it's own..

I've installed a original cd/radio player, and changed the Alarm Control unit.
After this was done, the beep from the horn disappeared, no problems with the alarm starting on it's own..
about a week later, once again the alarm went off..
what I've discoverd later on, is that I had several mice in the car, the basterds are now all dead :-)

so, can mice set of the alarm? I guess there is a motion senor inside the car?

My bet is a wire disconnected or chewed through...check the ground wire first.

mice could indeed set off the alarm. where could they hide in the interior of your car though? a rather unpleasant notion.

try double clicking the alarm button as you lock the car from the key fob. this will disable the motion sensor inside the car and allow the mice free rein without your alarm sounding. this technique also ( supposedly? ) saves on battery drain as these cars use up a lot of juice even while parked.

set traps and good luck.

well, I've taken out 2 of them with traps.. so guess that problem is solved.. also I set up a device in the workshop that sends out a noise they don't like.. so I hope they are gone for good..

but: do you guys agree that mice crawling around inside the car (on the floor, seats and so on) can set off the alarm?

Second the eat up the wiring insulation comment.

To the OP: I've seen a couple of cars (Turbo Cab, Cayman) in which mice (actually rats in the Cab) gnawed enough wiring/hoses in the case of the Cab the engine was running poorly and the check engine light was on.

While the Cayman was running ok the check engine light was on.

In the case of the Turbo Cab (along with some interior pieces) the engine wiring harness had to be replaced (engine out job).

In the case of the Cayman among other things the gasoline tube from the tank to the engine had to be replaced. The mice chewed a hole through this and the vapor leak this caused tripped the CEL.

In both cases the repairs were quite expensive and tjhe car insurance didn't cover the damages so the owners had to file a claim with their homeowners insurance.

I've never had any mice/rats in my cars, but I had a small moth in my Boxster which would flutter around and set off the alarm.

The only other alarm related issue I've had with my Boxster (the Turbo has been trouble-free) was the passenger side door lock assembly went bad. The alarm never went off on its own, but sometimes the horn would sound when I locked the car like something was ajar; the passenger side window would fail to drop when I opened the door, or worse drop then after the door was open raise so when the door was closed the window would smack the top rail; the door lock LED would come on concurrently with the sound of the doors locking. Pushing the unlock button would unlock the doors, but sometimes the doors would lock again on their own while I was driving the car.

Sincerely,

Macster.
