Weekend project will be installing the two aftermarket modules on my "S." I'll take pics and update Monday on how it goes. Really looking forward to being able to close the rear windows with the top down, and be able to open the top with one finger, or the remote.

I must of missed somewhere that there is a kit/mod for the rear windows and also the remote top control (although I know it did come with the European delivery cars).
Where can I find information on these two modules?
Thanks

One of the first mods I did. It works great and I use the features all the time. Really easy install. Be sure to use the velcro strap on the rear module because it will shake loose if you don't.
I can't remember the name of the site, but Just google SmartTop.

Thanks for the velcro tip. I wondered what the hell that was for….John the remote top and smart top complete what Porsche should have done to the 996 in the first place. These two modules plug into existing head units in the car, the smart top into the convertible module behind the rear seats, and the remote top fits into the module under he driver's seat. Basically these two devices allow the top to go up and down with one push of the button…no need to hold it. Then you can deploy/retract the top at speed, with no hand brake. You can also, which never made any sense to me, roll up the rear windows with the top down. The remote unit allows you to use the Porsche key to open/close the top, deactivate the windows going down when the top goes down, and a couple of other things that I can't remember…

Don't forget that it wil also automatically lock the doors a 5mph and unlock them when you remove the key.
You can turn this feature off if needed for the track, but it's handy to have in the big city.

Thanks for the hints etc. Unfortunately I don't have the original seats in so no place to plug the module. I have Recaro "Sport Line" seats.

John, the module plugs into the existing head unit under the seat. even with the thing plugged in, it still fits in the original place, and perhaps puts an additional 1/2 inch of width to the interface cable.

The control unit is mounted on the floor under the drivers seat and should still be there even if you changed the seats. It controls a number of features on the car such as remote entry. I'd be surprised if the car would work properly without it
