imagine that. repeated spoiler problems with a 911 996 turbo porsche!? say it isn't so. i empathize with your plight. but nearly everyone here seems to have perfectly operational spoilers, all the time.

it's like 911tt heaven!

I like the 997 turbo, but it seems like Porsche gave in and did not stand by their design changes, also the 997s interior is kind of busy. Of course I would not kick one out of my garage.

Haha everybody knows that all cars suffer from engineering issues.

Porsche is no different.

Off the top of my head, 996tt is afflicted with poor engineering of

1. Clutch accumulator (been through x2)

2. Hydraulic rear spoilers lifts

3. 2nd gear pop-out.

Kinda like telling the NA 996 (and 997) folks that their RMS failure is due to...

My car as a data point:

My accumulator needed replacing at the 3.5 year point (had it replaced under warranty). The replacement has been trouble free for 6.5 years.

My spoiler has always worked perfectly.

Aside from the accumulator, my transmission has always worked perfectly.

yeah, i've had to do all that stuff. 2nd gear was a bitch, they went in TWICE! and cpo warranties are worth every dime. funnily enough, ( and in fairness as these are incredible machines even with all of the known trouble areas of this model ), once they've been dealt with ( repaired/replaced ) the problems don't really recur. it's like once ya replace the ps reservoir.. or the coolant tank. you're good for a good long while...

excepting of course the accumulator/slave and spoiler issues, which are poised to strike at any time. ha.

Lols,

I had my coolant tank replaced and PS reservoir done too. The reservoir was dry (due to the failed accumulator). I'm lucky though as I know a guy who's car caught fire due to a pentosin leak from a failed accum>>ps rsv

Besides the sexy rear end...my vote is the Engine itself. Much more solid than that of it's 996 brethren.

Off topic:
Accumulator. Spoiler hydraulics. Faulty air valve.

Beyond that, oil changes (at home), brake fluid flush.

I think my accumulator went again - and I only had it replaced about 2 months ago.

On topic:

The 4 point harness gets my vote!
