Default How do you clean debris out of side radiator spaces?

I picked up a 996TT a couple weeks ago and Id like to clean debris out of the far corners of the side radiator spaces, but am unsure the best way to do so.

I blasted most of it out with my air compressor, but debris that is lodged in the far corner is stuck. How do you clean yours out 100%? I dont want to go in there with anything physical that may damage the rad, and I dont see how to attain access to the space.

Thanks!

wondering same thing after trying to remove leaves/debris etc. someone posted that the acid(!?) from leaves ( ) can eat into the rads. that can't that be right ... can it?

those aftermarket screens are beginning to look like a good idea. i always had the dealership clean 'em out before.

Remove the front bumper, the rubber air ducts, and separate slightly the rads.

Only way to get 100% clean is to remove the bumper. Kind of a PIA job... BTDT...

A leaf blower seems to work as well, but not as thorough.

+1. It's really not that hard - a handful of torx screws and a rubber plug under the side marker light and it slides right out. 4 screws to separate the a/c condensers from the radiators. Here's a DIY with pix:

While you have the bumper off, suggest you put in some screens behind the plastic grills to reduce the amount of crap that can get through. I used hardware cloth painted black (about $10) but there are some very nice powder-coated screens available that look better.

A quick way is put an old cardboard tube from a paper towel roll on the end of a vacuum hose and suck the stuff out. The cardboard tube is soft enough that will not damage the radiators.

I use a narrow, corner suction tool supplied wiuth most vacuum cleaners. The one I have works very well.

I think Dell also did a step by step on the bumper cover removal.

Carlo's suggestion of a paper tube worked perfectly. I found a wrapping paper one and was able to clean the corners out. Paper towel tube was not long enough.

Im sure that I will have to remove the bumper at some point, but happy to avoid that for now.

Hey Bio! I'll be keen for a ride this upcoming spring when I return...without the leaves in the front bumper of course.

Once you take the bumper cover off you'll see it's about as quick as rigging up carboard tube attachments. Also, after you do it once you'll have an idea of how much crud gets caught between the condensor and radiator and adjust your cleaning/maintenance schedule with your driving environment.
