Check oil level with car running or not?

Sorry for newbie question, I'm more used to 951's.
Don't have manual, and first encounter with 996 TT tomorrow, will take for long drive. Do I check the oil with car running or not on these cars?
Does it have like an oil level sender like the 993 (In dash), and if yes, how to read it.
Regards

There is no oil dipstic on TT. The only way to check the oil level is to do it by dash computer. The engine must be warm, running and car parked on level ground.
Is it manual or tip? If it is manual, do a search on "accumulator" and "clutch" and learn how to find out if the car has clutch related problems. I just bought a TT with bad clutch, accumulator and slave cylinder and had to replace them all.

Oil level is important, but checking the oil pressure is more important. Warmed up and idleing, it should be at least 2 bars. Mine idles at 2.5 bars. 4 to 5 bars when driving. The needle should be steady at any given rpm.

But I have noticed some variation. Nothing scary but some nonetheless.
Sometimes the gage reads 2 bar, sometimes a bit below. I've never yet seen it 'drop' to what I estimate to be 1.75 bar.
What I have observed is the oil pressure does drop the longer I let the engine idle, up to a point. I suspect the oil is warming up, even though of course the coolant temp gage is not this sensitive and shows no movement of the coolant temp one way or the other.
Because I'm testing a new data logger which connects to my car's OBD port and this new data logger device wants to remain connected constantly (for testing purposes) I can't connect my handheld OBD2 code reader/data viewer and monitor the coolant temp in real time to see if the coolant temp (which means the oil temp) is going up as the oil pressure drops. By drops I mean a needle width, maybe.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I'm using 5-40 tdt and it's at almost 3 bars idling cold and then drops to probably a hair under 2.5 when it's hot. But it was the same when I had the old 0-40 in it so I'm not sure it is the oil.
Maybe the gauges get a little off in their calibration over time. At any rate, I don't think it is supposed to be much under 2 bars.
