Default Obtaining service records on a car

Hello once again,
The carfax is pretty general in terms of the service history. The current dealership only has records from the current owner. They said they erase the previous owners records once the car comes in under a new name. I was also told,Porsche is a franchised dealerships,so they can't access info from another dealership
Please advice as to how to retrieve the history on this car.
Thanks

It's a really hard thing to do today, with all the privacy issues involved.

Find it hard to believe the dealer would actually erase the service history of the car just because it sold. Something's fishy.

When I found a used Turbo that I liked and wanted to know more about I got a CarFax report on the car and noted where it spent some time.

Here, and there in the bay area, as it turns out.

So I called the various dealers in the area and with the VIN was able to learn (over the phone) what servicing and when. Not a huge amount of detail, but I did learn what servicing (oil/filter service, brake fluid flush/bleed, etc.) the car had been treated to and when (Oct 2008).

I never asked about the previous owner, instead just focusing on the car and what servicing it had. (After all, I was buying the car, not the previous owner.)

Oh, the car was a CPO car so there was all the warranty work the had included with the CPO paperwork.

Might point out that after a point what servicing a car had early on counts for less and less.

What counts for more is what condition the car is in now. For instance, the car I was looking at had around 10K miles and was over 6 years old so what servicing it had had early on was of some interest, some value to me to help put a number (so to speak) on the car's condition then.

But now the car is 9 years and has another 56K miles on it, so what is more important is what servicing it has had since I bought it. And just as important, if not more so, is what condition the car is in now.

Sincerely,

Macster.
