996 TT/X50 option clarification ( archives..no help)
Gearing up to buy '02-'05 TT and while i know the differences between the stock TT/X50/TT-S,however i have few questions regarding the options ?
a)-Are there any standard options on these cars especially an X50 car ?
b)-Does the console looks any different if the car does not have a navigation ? c)-Are Xenon lights standard on an X50/TT-S ?
d)-Any issues with PCCB ? i know they can be replaced with the standard one's but are PCCB's recommended for DD with out any track time ?
Thanks

X50 is itself an option code. Take a look under the hood for the complete option list on the car you're considering.

what they said
X50 is an option that consists of larger turbos and intercoolers and some electronic ECU tweeks. It gives the car a bit more power however 0-60mph times are the same as stock and top speed is increased less than 2 mph.
I thought Nav was standard
All 996 Turbos had Litronic (Xenon) lights
Gen 1 PCCBS are good to avoid, Gen 2 are fine for street, but easily damaged and prohibitively expensive to service and repair. I think the general consensus is they wear very fast on the track and are not worth the rotor replacement costs.
reading a few threads and searching the Turbo forum will give you a wealth of information for more details on your questions.

No surprise that top speed is close. At those speeds it's pretty much the aerodynamics that are the limiting factor.

Transmission is the same X50 or not.
OP, you can find the Porsche factory order guide- with every possible option code- for each year. Renntech has these for members.

I am pretty well informed about the standard/X50 differences however i wasn't familiar with what X50 came standard with. I didn't realize X50 was an option in it self ...
My next question,is there any difference physically in how the dash looks with and with out nav ? Is the nav screen still there yet not functional ?
Thanks

If you have the nav it is a 2 DIN system with a single CD looking system below it, chances are it's not worth any $$$ since finding updated nav data disks is almost impossible and they cost too much IMO. I replaced my nav system with a Kenwood 2DIN Radio/XM/DVD/Nav/Bluetooth system instead.

my 2003 NAV is a different unit than in the 2002 and looks different. I agree its not a deal breaker not having it because of the map cost and besides that its a PITA to program compared to aftermarket.

This is exactly what i was looking for..So what's there in place of navigation ?
With out nav,is the car still equpped with all the wiring to be able to get an aftermarket unit installed ?
Thanks guys for helping me out here.

Remember the nav unit is radio also- the screen displays radio channel stuff, distance/mileage junk, and maps/nav.
If you look at the picture the 4 single din items can be moved around- the top two places will have the nav, then the CD storage, then the environmental controls at the bottom

Is that based on the factory published numbers for 0-60? The caution there would be that the factory numbers are very conservative to begin and I'm sure underestimate both stock and X50. IIRC, the road tests done by Excellence and other magazines do show a few tenths difference. And all of them are better than the factory claims.

In Germany every car produced by a manufacturer must be able to equal or exceed any published/advertisied performance specifications. Many Porsches do exceed the performances published due to slight variances in the actual horsepower of the engines between enginves so to speak. I'm not sure what the current specification variance allowed is but it used to be up to +5% (way back when).
