Default What are the 2 infrared sensors for?

I just looked at a couple of 966 TTs today. I noticed what looked like infrared sensors by the map lights, just forward of the sunroof control. What do they do?

Infrared passenger compartment monitoring...part of the alarm system. If a passenger (really anything that will move around) is going to remain in the car with the doors locked, the monitoring system must be switched off.

I found out the hard way what they were for. I was at a red box and got a movie, on my way into the store I tossed the dvd in through the open sunroof. With 10 people standing near my car, the alarm went off and of course I could not get me keys out of my pocket. Alarm was going off for what seemed like forever before I could get to the key. At least now I know they work as advertised.

Needless to say with a Cab and the top is down the sensors are not set. Work with the top up though.
