Default 997 SSK

Yeah another 997 SSK posting. I just finished installing the 997 SSK (thanks Mike Kelly) and all I can say is ...... WOW. I didn't expect such a dramatic difference. The throws are short, precise and have a good detent. At first I thought perhaps the throws might be too short but after making a test run through some twisties and exercising some heartbeat shifts they are purrrrfect.

The hardest part of the install was the disassembly of the console parts due to not wanting to break anything. Did they hire someone from Lego's to design these things? After getting to the shift assembly the install was a snap and reassembly took one quarter of the time. Absolutely worth the time and effort.

Tomorrow I'm tackling installing the X73 motor mounts that along with the X73 suspension (installed) and the 997 SSK should finalize my first level of non-modding.

Glad I could be of service... Providing real world experience, based on facts and first hand knowledge and recording it in DIYs has always been my goal. glad you could use it with good success...

Hopefully the moderators won't hound me for this post...

Not to worry Mike, there are several of us that follow in your footsteps

And the others that enjoy being contrarian just for the sake of it are slowly but surely becoming more and more ignored with each and every post.

I installed this last night using Mike's DIY. It took less than two hours, and I'm not known for speed. I think I counted the threads five times for each cable Thanks Mike.

I love it. When I had my C2 I had a B&M shifter. This is so much better and miles apart from stock.

Yep! I used Mike's DIY as well. I ended up using masking tape in lieu of the sharpie to mark the position of the cable. That worked well because my hand wasn't steady enough to mark the cables to a degree of accuracy I was comfortable with.

Easy cheap non-mod and well worth it. Along with the clutch helper spring removal, my car now shifts like I though it should when I bought it.

Anybody ever go to this after a B&M? Just curious. I have a B&M and am quite happy with it, short and precise as well, if only a bit "notchy" at times.

Like you, I am also quite happy with my B&M shifter. I have no need to switch.

I don't have any experience with B&M, but in researching it seems the B&M is a bit more notchy but has a shorter throw. The 997 SSK is smoother but the throw is not short.

Since Mrs SSST drives the car I went with smoother. I'm happy with my choice as I'm sure B&M owners are happy with theirs.

I went from a B&M to the stock 997 shifter and then from there onto the 997SSk. In my particular situation, the B&M was in the car when I bought it. It was notchy and I did not like it. The car was in the shop several times for adjustments, and it was "never" right.

Your Mileage May Vary. That said, the 997SSK, in my opinion is the best solution on the market.
