I had a 996NA Targa for 4 months. Enjoyed the ride. It was a pretty car in very good condition. Paid $31.5 for a 2004 with 25K miles on it. After my unfortunate encounter with a semi, and an insurance settlement that was not to be believed, my indy mechanic told me to look seriously at the TT. I honestly thought that I would be out of my price range.

The end result was that I found a 2001 TT with a flashed chip and lots of goodies for $43,000. The car had 25,300 miles on it. So, honestly, it cost me $1,500 over my insurance settlement to get the TT. THERE IS NO COMPARISON.

The TT has gobs and gobs of power. But the fun of it is that I don't need to put my foot to the floor to have a rapid launch. Just stick your foot in it, get to .3 or .4 boost and the rocket has left the pad!!

Was it worth the $1,500 more to get the TT. YES. Would it be worth $11,500 if I hadn't gotten the insurance upgrade? Well . . . . . . yes, but it depends on if you can scrape together the extra funds. If you can - DO IT. You won't regret it. Also, even though the general population doesn't understand that those fake ducts in the rear fender designate the Turbo, they know that there is something special about that car!!!! They will turn and salute as you go by.

About gas mileage - Hey, I didn't buy this car to get good gas mileage. I bought it for the excitement. I am averaging 17 mpg in the city or in combo driving. If I had wanted great mileage, I would have bought a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.

I totally agree...

I had the 996 C2 01 Man...and always wanted to have a 996 TT Man...
after 3,5 years of ownership I did swap....

It never ends...

(same thing happend years ago when Ι had a 964 C2 01 Man and always wanted to have a 965...)

forgive for saying that but I have a feeling that all NA (forget about RS, RSR etc) cars want to be a turbo......

it all comes to a point how much $$$ you can afford...

A more accurate comparison would be GT3 vs Turbo - both have the GT1 engine. The "lesser" 911 engines found in C2s/C4s are a bit underengineered. The IMS failure is not an if but a when.

Couldn't agree more... Except that the GT3 has all that light weight stuff installed... Our gals are a little more "full figured"...
