Default El Mirage Dry Lake? Anyone have any...

experience at the lake?

In a recent issue of UK published EVO magazine read an article about the new Porsche GTS and the UK writers headed the car from LA to the lake to make some high speed runs. Based on their comments one can show up and make a high speed run as long as the lake is not flooded (it was when they showed up) and not already spoken for by a scheduled meet or reserved for TV/movie/commericial filming.

I expect I'd need a helmet but are the rollbar, multi-belt restraints, and fire extinquisher stuff required if one just drops in outside of a sanctioned race/event?

IOWs, could I just show up in my street legal, stock and in good repair/tune Turbo and make some high speed runs?

Sincerely,

Macster.

Well, I have tentative plans -- the car is packed! -- to head down there after I leave the office today. Not sure I'll make it. Very tired and I may stop at Monterey and veg out tonight and come back home Sunday evening (have to be at the office Monday bright and early).

But if I make it down there I'll try to remember to take some pics. I have my digital camera and plenty of batteries.

No movies though. Went off this AM and left the movie camera at home and I don't want to drive the 30 miles back home to pick it up.

I'm at the office now and my office is two exits on 92 west of 880 and I'm thinking of heading south on 880 and catching 101 south and taking 101 down then over to Victorville instead of my usual route which has me taking 580 to 5 or 580 to 132 to 99 and the south.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Made it to San Luis Obispo but stopped at a motel around 7pm. Very tired and almost clipped a tire carcass on 43.

Might press on to El Mirage Sunday or might just explore this area some.

Sincerely,

Macster.

SLO is a great town. If you like beer go to SLO brewing company. I stayed at an great B&B there with my wife that was just a couple blocks from the brewery. Lots of fun roads down there. Enjoy!

Some kind person sent me a PM that pretty much confirmed one can just show up and go out on the dry lake bed. I'll have to wait and see what I feel like after my complimentary breakfast and coffee Sunday AM but I'm thinking of pressing on to El Mirage and getting the Turbo dusty.

Sincerely,

Macster.
