The car has a salvage title. This implies that whatever damage it sustained was considerable and the insurance company decided not to repair the car because of this. This means that the car cost too much to fix *right*. The car can still be fixed, apparently was fixed, but maybe not right. Do you want to own such a car?
I had a 4 week old Cayman S hit and the other driver's insurance declared the car a total loss at the point the repair bill estimate climbed to over $40K. (Properly repairing a Porsche is not cheap.) The car cost me (not including tax/license/etc) $50.6K. The car stickered (but was discounted -- I bought it on sale) at $62.6K.
The numbers above I hope give you some feeling for the extent of the damage the car you are looking at must have sustained to be declared a total loss vs. repaired properly.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Although the price of a car with a salvaged title may be tempting, don't forget when you go to sell it, the car will still have a salvage title. Caveat emptor.

I've heard of a few 996 turbo fires caused by power steeriing hose failures, but this is the first time I've heard of a fire caused by the rear spoiler hydraulics.

My guess is someone relayed incorrect info concerning the source of the fire...

Just go for it! Rarely do people misrepresent issues or object just to sell their boat anchors...
Wheeee...what a fun time.

Could be a nice basis for a race car.. strip it out.. have some fun! Not sure if "salvage-fire" is any better or worse that "salvage-accident" for instance. As someone else mentioned, don't ever expect to sell it for a profit.. but it could be fun in the meantime.

What is it about the replies in your other identical thread that you don't seem to want to believe?

You should ALWAYS be scared of a salvage title car, unless you're going to turn it into a track or race car. If you're buying it as a street car, you're buying someone elses problem. Check your local laws on what it will take to tag and insure a salvage title car first, and then decide on what you want to spend on this car to make it "right".
There is a reason that this car has been for sale for a while. If it is to good to be true, well you know the rest...

See my post in your other thread on this same subject here, which is bothersome that you would post again on the same subject in a new thread, but hey, whatever...
