Default Front Strut Removal

Hello,
I did use the search feature and found conflicting answers. I am in the proces sof removing the front struts out of my 2003 996 c4 and so far i have the steering rack, and caliper disconncected and I am purchasning a ball joint popper tomorrow to pop off the control arm.
Now is it possible to remove the front strut without removing the half shaft? I have found posts with people saying you have to do it and other saying you do not. I am hoping I do not but any help is appreciated. Thank you!

From my experience you have to remove the shaft. Either from the outside on the hub or it will just slide out from the diff. I had one side that came out easily from the hub and the other didn't so I had it come out on the diff side.

I did it without removing the control arm, but you will need a spring compressor to get the stock strut short enough to rotate out.
