Agreed, 997ssk is best UNLESS you don't mind noise, the the cup car cables and unit are best.

Critical in all of this is the adjustment.....I had a cup car shop, Dougherty Automotive (DAS bars....) install it. Crew chief of a rolex team took his time and said the install was critical. Since then, my meager 996ssk factory unit has been utterly amazing. He told me it is a pita... If you feel a guy like that can be trusted, it is possible that the 996ssk can do a great job, it is just a lot harder to "get into a sweet spot" than the 997ssk. Who knows. As a corollary, a 997ssk may not be a move forward if your mechanic stinks.

(I had 2nd gear pop out and this guy rebuilt my tranny custom....for about 8k....previous owner probably speed shifted.....all I can say)
