Kevin, I thought I read in a thread over on suxblings that there was a benefit by reducing stress on the motor as well...Adding torque isn't something i'm overly converned with. But making the motor live longer, I'm all about that personally...

Couldn't agree more, well put!

I'm definitely considering the upgraded intake piping, but north of a grand is a tough pill to swallow for the upgrade as I don't track my car, or do any serious racing. Plus it's "semi" for sale. On the fence about letting it go, so not sure it meets MY needs, BUT it would be a shame to not do it while the engine it out for the next buyer.

Two pieces of advice...

Find a buyer now before the car goes back together...

Don't drive it when it's back together or you will disappoint the potential buyer when you back out of the deal...

You're pretty much doing everything I've done to mine in the last 3 years, except I have Kevin's old K16/24 setup the previous owner installed...

Your car is gonna drive like a big block Chevy with torque everywhere...It's quite intoxicating...

You've been warned!

Brian has been my indy for about 2 years. His shop is in Marietta. Great guy... very dependable and most importantly...honest and reasonable. It's also convenient that he has a photographic memory.

Joe -

The setup you are installing is almost exactly what I did earlier this year. You are going to be very pleased with it.

You should anticipate a couple of things...

When they drop the motor, they are going to find some things that need to be repaired that you couldn't see with it in place. In my case, it was the pipe from the secondary air pump, and a handful of little things.

After you start running your car, you are probably going to discover the weak links in your drive train. So far, I've had a wheel bearing and a CV joint go out.

Good luck with the project!

I'm replacing about 20 things already. I'll add those to the list. What else?

--- My list of things to replace while engine is out ---
  • Coolant tank
  • Water pump
  • Main coolant hoses.
  • Idler pulley nearest to the power steering pump
  • Wideband O2 sensors
  • MAF
  • Clutch Slave/Master

I wasn't suggesting that you do all of those things now -- the wheel bearings and CV joints will find you. ;-)

One thing that wasn't on your list is coil packs. Pretty easy with the motor out, and a PITA after. My guess is that you'll eventually want intercoolers. But, you are already well on your way to $20k. There must be a limit somewhere.

Coil Packs - OEM or has someone upgraded them?
Intercoolers - Recommendation?

BBI claims to have an upgrade on coil packs. Expensive, but their data look like it's a waste of money to me.

Intercoolers -- there are a couple of threads on 6speed regarding this right now. There do seem to be some real gains to be had, but most of the reports are not showing the data in such a way as to be able to really evaluate it. What should be reported is pressure drop through the intercooler, and heat transfer efficiency after a significant track session. Mostly it's pictures, bashing other products, and "gee these are MUCH better than stock.

I'd recommend that you ask Kevin. As you already know, he will give you a straight answer with no BS.

What's the name of the shop? I'm in Roswell so shouldn't be too far away from me.

I would add replacing coolant fittings that's simply glued in to the list... Best prob to weld them. 8 total for 996tt's i believe
