Sold 40th, on the hunt for a 996 Turbo Tip!
After a clean PPI on Monday, I've got a deposit on my 40th Anniversary and the buyer is flying in this Friday to drive her home!
With cash in hand, I'm looking for a good deal on a 996 Turbo Tiptronic (so wifey can drive it too), hardtop or convertible, most colors, reasonable mileage, no specific options required. Any leads on Rennlist? I've got some saved searches on cars.com, autotrader.com and ebay and I'm watching them every day. I know some of you guys/gals have recently been on the hunt for a 996 Turbo so what price points should I be shooting for? Asking prices are all over the board... For example, what would be a fair price on a 2002 996 Turbo with Tiptronic and average options with 30k miles? I'm thinking about $42.5k?

Thanks Dell! FYI, you were pretty spot-on with your 40th pricing on the 996 board. I probably could have gotten a little bit more for it but I received 3 solid offers within 2 weeks of listing it on autotrader!
Any ideas on what's a nice price for the turbo I described above?

Very welcome. Some will bash me when I post a price that seems "low" but I have always subscribed to the understanding that you need to BE the market not FOLLOW it. Set your price right the first time and SOLID offers will come. Price it wrong and it will sit for a loooooooooooooong time or worse, not sell. I have seen WAY TOO MANY guys price their cars too high and do so based on principle, emotion, etc, and not do the proper research. Then they are pissed when it doesn't sell or worse yet, have to drop their price to a point point LOWER than I offered since they waited too long and the market dropped further. Saw this ALL DAY LONG during the 2005-2006 housing decline in Vegas. Sad really.
As far as the one you describe you are just about spot on. My guess would have been 39-44K (closer to 39 good for you, closer to 44 good for seller) since the tips are selling for less than the 6sp. Don't get hung up on miles. Do get hung up on RELIGIOUS maintenance and a near perfect PPI. It will save tons of cash in the future and give you a car that will last forever.
