Default Anyone know this UK export 996TT?

Hi there,

Itīs a really long shot but if any list is the right, its Rennlist!

Looking for information about a silver 2002 TT that recently have been exported to UK. I guess there are plenty of these around but maybe the 20" wheels can give some hints.

The car is advertised on ebay UK on this link

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2002-911-Porsc...item45f31afbcb

Does anyone know anything about this car please give me a notice about it!

Best regards
/Peter

Oh those wheels...

The one brake rotor I can see has a bit of a lip on it.

I do not know the car, though.

Sincerely,

Macster.

The Ebay car is also advertised on Pistonheads classifieds - from a dealer I've never heard of.

Hi,

Interesting what can be found out!

What exactly is Carfax and what can be read out from it?

Is it insurance marks or service or repair history?

Should one look away from this car from your experience?

Does it say how many previous owners?

Thanks so far!

Best bet is to visit CarFax's web site and read over the info there.

Various things are contained in a CarFax report. Generally changes in ownership, re-titles (when for instance one moves from one state to another one surrenders the current title issued in another state for a new title issued in one's new state), some services, repairs, and some accident related info.

The report might also contain info if the car was a buy back (lemon), a salvaged vehicle, theft recovery vehicle, etc.

But and this is very important just because it contains none of the negative things mentioned above doesn't mean the vehicle is pure as the driven snow.

CarFax is not perfect and part of this is the databases it relies upon are not perfect but it is better than nothing as long as one keeps its limitations in mind.

In the UK I think you want to check with HPI for any liens, or other issues associated with the car.

Look here:

http://www.hpicheck.com/

HPI may be the UK equivalent of CarFax.

I do not know enough about the car to state you should walk away.

Get a CarFax report, since the car came from the USA I think that is wise.

Get an HPI report and read and study both CarFax and the HPI reports.

Have you viewed the car?

Oh, several very knowledgeable and authoritative writers for several UK independent Porsche car mags also provide -- as a sideline and for a fee -- used car Porsche analysis, both older classic models and newer models as well.

Pick up 911 & Porsche World, GT Purely Porsche and scan the ads for those offering those services. Check the magazine's title page for the names of the contributing writers and match the names up to the ads.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I think HPI covers much less than Carfax, but is definitely a necessity when buying a car from the UK. It will tell you about things like colour changes, whether the car has every been written off / stolen, whether finance is outstanding.

Oh - and don't think that buying from a dealer protects you from some of these things. About 5 years ago, I arranged to buy a (very dull) car from a dealer. HPI check showed it was stolen several years previously - and never recovered!
