I have read from numerous sources that it is a bit of a no brainer to get a new exhaust and chip for a 996 turbo. Do people generally agree and if so any recommendations for products? I drive mine to work regulalry and would like a bit more horsepower and better sound, but don't want to lose the driver friendly nature of the car.

Kevin (UMW) for the ECU remap & Europipe Stage 2 Loud for the exhaust. Both are first class.

+1 for Kevin* and Europipe. And the Europipe II quiet is more liveable and is just as strong
as the loud...
* A no-brainer. You can get a unit with different programs you can swap out
in seconds. You can even have a 'valet' setting where the car produces zero
boost! It'll drive and park just fine, but if you try to hot-dog it, it just doesn't
notice your foot on the floor! Very amusing!

i went with a speedtech exhaust and had EPL do the re-flash, very happy with both
there are lots of tuners out there, probably 3 or 4 thats are trusted on this forum, exhausts are a very personal thing, make sure you here it 'in the flesh' if possible before buying it, most have some sort of drone, some more than others, obviously some are a lot louder than others

Installed Fabspeed exhaust and intake today. Held off on ECU flash. car has only 6500 miles on it and I had it CPOd. Want to make sure there are no problems in the pipeline. It is a X50. It feels much more willing to rev. The butt dyno says much quicker. Did not have time to put on their dyno, but will be doing soon. There is some drone, and it is much louder. As stated, the sound is a matter of taste. I like how it turned out and the exhaust looks absolutely beautiful. With the flash, Fabspeed is quoting 620 hp on X50 cars. The package included headers, 200 cell cats and dual canister mufflers.
