Default Exhaust W/O Drone

Does anyone know which 996TT exhausts have no drone at any RPM?

I guess it depends on what your definition of the word "drone" is.

As far as I know...the stock one is the only one....even Europipe will emit a slight drone at a certain rpm under load. I have an EP system so I know....but it's not annoying or really noticeable. Most exhaust systems have a particular point where they drone....but as long as it's not the sweet spot where most of your driving is done...usually around 2300-3800 rpm. For the other gears, you usually don't stay in them at that rpm range for very long, so there's a tendency to pass thru the drone range.. Cruising on the highway is where drone will drive you nuts....with a 6 speed at 70 and around 2800 rpm to 3000 is where drone will drive you bats because you just cant' get away from it. Some exhaust systems are noted for drone and you'll see them up for sale....usually with very few miles on them. Ever wonder why? Some folks simply write off drone as being a loud exhaust...something they like. For me, that oscillating waaa-waa-waa sound...sort of a harmonic hurts my ears and just drives me crazy. Dock is right...it depends upon what you consider drone is....is it a loud exhaust...or a constant tone that has a tendency to come on at a certain rpm?

I should have been more specific. Louder is good. By drone, I'm talking about the resonant frequency where you here the annoying waa-waa in the car. Like a twin engine turboprop aircraft with the props out of sync. Anyway, thanks for the info guys!

I have not heard the Ruf unit... but outside of that, only the stock one has no drone... every other I have heard has a level of drone...

most if not all aftermarket has some drone. some worst than others. for example i have a car graphics which has some drone around 2k-2.5k rpm. at higher rpm's the exhaust note changes completely and is music to the ears.

Has anybody on here done the mod that some on 6speed had done where they drill holes into the muffler by going thru thru the pipe tips? Does this add drone?

I have a Cargraphic "Medium" and there is no drone whatsoever. However, it would be considered heavy by most standards for an aftermarket unit. It sounds fantastic and is beautifully made. If by chance you're in the NY Tri-State area, you're welcome to hear it anytime. It is very nice sounding.

The harmonics also depend on the current condition of your tires. Some tires make more noise as they become worn, and this noise can set up harmonics with the exhaust.

I did - drilled 1-1/4" holes in each bend, per the instructions in that unbelievably long thread.
The result: great exhaust sound at all speeds and EXTREMELY annoying drone under load between 1800 and 2400 RPM which works out to about 50-75 MPH highway top gear cruise speeds!
(One of many reasons I eventually sold the car...)
