There is just not enough rubber on a 265 for an 11 in wheel. So it is a safety issue.

What specifically can go wrong? Tire coming apart? Sidewalls blowing out?
I know there are a number of people using this combination - me included - has anyone on thie board ever had a failure because of this? Or is the danger of using a 265 on an 11" wheel (with all due respect!) an old wives tale?

We are not tire engineers, and we are of the strong opinion not to second guess the white coats at the tire manufacturers. I have spoken at depth with one of Michelin's top designers (he designed the PS2 for the Corvette ZR1) and he agrees with me for many reasons.
Just because you can does not mean you should......
