Whats speed does a 996 turbo catch on the 1km run?
as compared to the speed a 997 GT3 RS gets on a 1km run?

996tt Top acceleration 0-1000 m.: 22.4 sec.
so a 1.5 second difference to the km.

Those are some fast times you quote, especially relative to the Moscow mile results. In the Moscow mile results found at the link below, the Porsche 911 Switzer SPI 750 ran a 26.959, and the Corvette ZR1 ran 28.731.
The Switzer 911 also ran a 10.303 quarter mile, so it is without question faster than a 911 GT3 RS, making the 20.9 sec mile run for the GT3 and the 22.4 sec time for the Turbo seems out of place.

I got to run with a 7 GT3 RS at Putnam Park a few weeks ago. They are fast, but my flashed 6TT took it on the straight. I am sure if the GT3 had a more experienced driver, I wouldn't have passed him on the curves!

I agree, and you have just proven my point I am always going on about. I always say this about the turbo when people start talking it down handling wise on the track; I race bikes and cars and I find the following a relevant comparison; if a 600cc bike is a 911GT3 and 1000cc bike is turbo this is what happens; Equal drivers; Yes 600cc bike is quicker (by a small-medium margin) through the corners, then on the straight 1000cc bike murders 600cc bike with a 50bhp advantage. The 600cc bike rider then needs to work very hard to make up the distance through corners which is a risky proposition because that’s where things eventually go wrong because the rider needs to go on the limit through corners where eventually a mistake will be made. So, in racing, there is no substitute for power. Slower in faster out = safe and fast! Shedding some weight of the turbo, flash, exhaust, coilovers and stabiliser bars (reduction in over-steer) and there is not much that can live with the turbo anywhere. Only Walter Rohl will beat you - but then again he would do it in a Porsche 924 turbo.
