Default Boost

Being new to "blown" P-cars I have a question pertaining to my (new to me) -01 996 Turbo. Car has a ECU flash, Agency Power DV's, race cats and a stainless steel exhaust. Boost gauge has never shown more than peak 1.1 bar but has also not kept it but rather constantly dropped to 0.9 or 1 bar. It was the same pre the install of the DV's as well. Is this normal or am I running a leak somewhere?

Ciao,

Johannes

Assuming you have K16 turbos, 1.0 bar is about as good as you can get...boosting over that will not add power.

Yupp K16's. Just cam back from a drive and saw 1.2. and 1.3 but dropped back down to 0.9 and 1.0 after peaking. Is this drop from peak value normal?

JE

when you say peak, I assume you mean spike...spikes are dependent on environmental conditions, fuel, hardware peculiarities (stuck wastegates. leaks and such) and measurement systems....

Mr. C4, sounds to me like the variations could be affected by your wg actuators. have them checked and/or even replaced.

Well, it boosts 1 - 1.1 at almost any given time (mainly in 4th and 5th gear) for a few seconds only but then dropps down to 0.9 reving to the redline so I guess you could call it a spike. I reckon this is normal depending on factors such as gas and outside temperature.

Ciao,

Stock ECU only permits max. boost up to a certain RPM level then drops boost as engine speed climbs. This holds true all the way to redline. So, you'll see max. boost, whatever that is, but only at lower engine speeds. I'll have to rummage around my sources and find this to quote the rpm levels. I don't trust my memory to remember the correct ones. I do recall the RPM limit is low, lower than I would have guessed had I been asked to guess. I'm talking maybe as low as 3000 or lower.

Sincerely,

Macster.
