Default 2002 Porsche 911 turbo cannot change gears

New to the forum. I got this 2002 911 turbo with just 7500 miles on it a year and half ago and it has been lot of fun. Not taken to track yet.

I was showing off the car to a friend and suddenly its stuck in 2nd gear and the stick came loose. Now I cannot change gear, any idea what the problem might be? Its summer in Seattle and I wanna take it out more often . Thanks guys.

If the stick is now floating freely, it sounds like the cables (could be either end)

You are going to need to figure out a way to manually get the car into neutral so it can be put on a flatbed.

easy fix. take a gander underneath to see if the cables poped off or just remove the center console.
most likely it's the cable behind the shifter that popped off.

If you are going to try to fix it yourself this might come handy:

There is a crappy piece of plastic that holds the shifter to the cable this probably broke. Ask me how I know, it needs to be replaced with something like this:

evoms.com

Price: $219.00 USD

Swift Shift Kit
SKU:SSKEVO996TT

Most other short shifters reduce the throw by too much, which makes them so short that the shift effort is exponentially greater than stock. This problem is what causes some short throw shifters to feel notchy and very hard to shift smoothly. Our systems reduce the shift throw a modest 20-30% shorter, which is a fine balance of shift throw reduction and minimal increase in shift effort. GET CONNECTED and move through the gears quicker with more precision.

Features

-Shortens Shift Throw by approximately 20%
-100% BOLT ON – Zero Modifications
-EZ Do-IT-Yourself Installation Instructions Included
-Installs in approx 1 hour
-CNC Machined to Exacting Tolerances
-Retains the use of the OEM shift ****
-Incorporates Spherical Heim Joint for More Precise Shifts
-Replaces OEM plastic shift linkage which has been prone to fail
-Significantly Reduces Shifter Free Play
-No Slack bearings now included in kit
