Improving Stereo
Short of replacing the entire sound system in my '04 TT Cab, what are my options to improve the sound? It seems plenty loud, but there is a distinct lack of low-end punch. Will better speakers help any appreciable amount? If so, what brands?
Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Dave,
I pretty much think it's all or nothing with the fiber stuff post '02. I'm having Rod at Car Audio Innovations come out and do mine I think. I need a refernce system, own a major ecording studio and need a very accurate system.
Ted.

Stat: I did try the Europipe....but I also put in the GT2 headers which dont' do much for a car under 600 but it did increase the depth of the EP sound and the attendant cabin noise level at certain rpm's....Recommendation? Leave it with the stock headers and just port them.
Wasn't it you who corrected me way back in time when I was looking for a set and used the plural form of Europipes....and was corrected to use the correct nomenclature of Europipe (exhaust system)? Just trying to keep the stat man on track since I don't get much of a chance to do it. Done with no malice intended.

Chuck, it wasn't me that corrected the English (proper noun)...I only deal with numbers. It was me that suggested to port and polish the stock headers instead of wasting money on new ones.
But we digress....sorry for the thread jack.

the oem stereo on these cars are terrible...you are limited on what you can do with the MOST system. For a better sounding stereo you will probably have to replace most of the system.

The issue isn't with MOST per se, it has MORE than sufficient bandwidth to carry any audio transport at any sample rate imagineable.
The issue is that is a OEM only interface, so there are no aftermarket audio devices or source masters.....long and boring story regarding the history of MOST.
The Bose amplfiier is very heavily equalized, the 'Bose EQ' is implemented in a Motorola DSP, so unless you are one of the designers, it is impossible to shut it off (although it is a simple ASCII software command thru the backdoor interface...but I digress again).
What you can do is simply buy an aftermarket product to remove/negate the Bose EQ (IIRC, it is called Clean Sweep or something), thus rendering the amplifier a simple (flat) lineout device, which can then feed any amplifier(s) (and of course speakers) of your choice.
The OEM integration remains in tact, and the CDR or PCM remains bus master and source master.
Or, as mentioned, you can of course rip everything out and do a sky's the limit install.
BTW, MOST is here for a long time to come, sorry.

Investigate the Rockford Fosgate Processor " 3SIXTY.1 ". It will lower your subwofer voltage down to where you can feed it into a amplifier of your choice.
I had the passenger sub removed and a 10" shallow depth speaker installed in a custom built speaker box. My passenger seat will not come all the way forward, but I like this sound versus a rear sub install in my '04 996tt cabriolet.
Hope this helps.......

Dension has been discussed extensively on Rennlist (sold by Eric at Bumperplugs, Rennlist member and sponsor)
mObridge has also been discussed extentisely in the Cayenne forum.
IIRC, Nav-TV was one of the first to field an iPod adapter for MOST, those have been discussed in various forums as well.
They all function in a similar manner, within the constraints of the OEM CDR/PCM S/W architecture and bring with them the limitations imposed.

MitchW is right. You can adapt the rockford 3sixty or JLs clean sweep. What they do is take the signal after the factory amp and clean up all the bumps and valleys in the freqency range and make it as flat as possible. They work wonderfull. You are still looking at doing a complete system. If you say you are happy except for the low end. You can add sub woofers to the stock system. I have did it many times. I also have changed complete systems and got wonderfull results.
