Hi 996 fans,
I had a question that needs to be answered by all you people. I have been told countless times that the 996 models have a high tendency for their engines to go bad. I always wanted to buy a 996 C4S because the body is just unbelieveable! even that red reflecting that hugs the wide body in back seals the deal for me. What do you guys think if I were to buy a 996 model in an '05 or '04? Would i be at risk for the engine blowing up? My mechanic also said that 996s always have engine problems and essentially have to be rebuilt. how much are low mile 996 going for now? Like 65k?
thanks for all of your help,
Jim

The 04 and 05 are nearly the same. Not enough difference to pay extra for. But you can find numerous cars with 10K to 20K mi. No need to get a hi milage car. Unless you are trying to scrape the lowest price car you can find. Not a good idea with any car.
The late model 996s are pretty much trouble free cars. An extreemly abused car will always have poor service records. Try asking your dealer about engine failures. I bet he will tell you has had few enough to count on his hands.

1985 - no offense to your mechanic, but if you do a limited amount of research, you'll find the 996 reliability is quite high and expecting an engine to blow up or thinking/stating it is common is ridiculous...

No offense taken...this is what I keep hearing. I'm assuming rule of thumb is to get the newest in the 996...which would be a 2005. How much is a low mile worth these days? I see some in the 55k and then some in the 68k...what is the real pricing range?
Thanks,
Jim
