Well found out the shifter was fine. Turned out the cables came off the shifter. So for the moment I am safety wiring them back on. I have decided that I will get the 997 GT3 997.424.010.91 shifter and EVO endlinks in probably about a year put this to bed once and for all.
Thanks for all the help on this guys

The CPO is very specific about what parts are covered. The CPO is not a bumper to bumper warranty. Your bumper to bumper expired in 2008. It's now 2012. Having owned the car for 6 weeks is irrelevant. It's nice that your dealer goodwilled the repair.

my cpo warrnty covered any item the new car warranty did. some repairs considered wear and tear items are not covered and the official porsche verbiage covers that in detail. that said, some things can be found not to be wear and tear, even though that may have been a contributant to their failure. if that is the case, pcna may pony up. the service advisor and any possible rapport you may or may not have is often key to the outcome of claims under cpo coverage. shifter cables would be initially classified as a wear and tear, i would think. any ssk kits, will void any chance of cpo coverage in that particular scenario.
