Default Audi R8 Turbo ??diesel??

A diesel powered Super Car to challenge the 911 turbo?

It doesn't out perform the 911 TT but it sure looks similar.

500hp and 737 ft-lb of torque @ 1750 rpm and 24mpg.

Story @ http://autoshow.autos.msn.com/autosh...1833&GT1=10763

... may be interesting... but it's not a Porsche!

Torque is king baby! Those are some pretty impressive numbers. I could never own another diesel, especially in a nice car. Have you ever noticed or experienced the diesel pump at the gas station? Try to keep that oily crap off your clothes and shoes and out of the car, it is hard to do. Sooner or later your car smells like diesel as well as your hands, and clothes.

Hey, I would love a diesel for mileage with 400+hp and 600+ ft lbs.....agree, the wheels are lacking.

I drive a 12000 pound diesel truck as my DD (2004 Dodge 3500 cummins) and the pump pressure/spray has gotten much better over the last two years. You don't get it on you anymore... The only thing you do want to have is a glove or shop rag to use when you pump the diesel. Most stations now have hand cleaner/towels near the pumps to keep it sanetary.

If porsche offered a Turbo Diesel, I'd be all over it...

Cant agree. My DD is a 2005.5 VW TDI. Only 100 hp but 177 ft/lbs more than makes up for it. 50 MPG doesnt hurt either. That said, Ive had it since it was new and Ive never had a problem ever filling it w diesel. I even have stanadyne additive in my trunk in a sealed container and have never had an inkling of odor. Sometimes the smell gets on my hands, but its gone in an hour or so. I suppose filling could be a problem if you use those oversize truck nozzles, but there are enough stations where I am to avoid this.

Agreed, I drive in winter and around my local town (blend in better) my Ford F-250 Super Duty Diesel and agree...the diesel pumps are getting much better. Just avoid the true truck pit stops. I was about to ran out of diesel the other and stop at a filling station for rigs, man the diesel pump was the size of a firehose. Filled up the truck in no time
