Default battery dead in 1 week?

I just went away on vacation for 8 days and left the TT sitting in the garage. When I tried to drive it the battery was too weak to start it. It has a brand new battery (3 months ago). The only non standard item was a cell phone charger plugged into the cigaratte lighter (no cell phone attached).

I bought this car 3 months ago so this is the first time I've left it that long without driveing it.

Is this normal?

Unfortunately it is not abnormal...get a maintainer. It is a must.

i've had my car sitting for at least 10 days and it started right-up. i would have it checked for possibly a short that may be draining the battery.

Default Dead Battery

I can let mine sit for 3 weeks or more and it will start. I have a Interstate in mine. I guess you did remove the key as you know if you leave it in the switch it will drain the battery.

Mine does that. The phone charger could also have an impact, especially if it has a light. I plug in the cigarette lighter charger if I leave it more than a few days. AS

If it's a brand new battery, it ought to last 8 days.

My car has sat for 10 days or so at a time without any problem. Only recently, after nearly four years on the original battery, have I had a problem when I went away for 3 weeks.

EDIT: I'm talking about my 996 Turbo; not my 993.

I saw a post on another forum...some guy bought a car used and it had a boomerang (Canadian version of LoJack) installed...actually turns out there were two units in his (and he had no knowledge of it). So do a diagnostic on what your system is drawing...should be somewhere less than 50 mA (depending on what options you have...60 minute test).

Sorry, if your current draw (at rest) is not between 40 and 60 ma then there is something drawing too much current.

Those phone chargers have a converter in them to take the current from 12 volts down to the amount needed by the phone. I've felt mine and can feel it gets warm. Heat would suggest some sort of current draw wouldn't it?? Is it possible that the phone charger was responsible for the excess draw? I know that if I'm going to leave the car sitting for any length of time, I always pull the phone charger out of the lighter receptacle.

It's also possible that the computer isn't shutting things like the standby features down after several hours. I see in the manual that after two hours, certain functions shut down or after a set number of days, even the remote control goes off. Is it possible the computer isn't performing those shutdown procedures?

you need to have the alarm ON in order to prevent the battery from draining....

It will drain the battery faster without the Alarm on then with the alarm. I even confirmed that with another tech.
Where did you get your info from?

Yes, it will drain the battery faster without the alarm, but the battery will still drain.

I have the spec sheet...in the workshop manual it is required to test the electronics with the car locked..
