I've decided to sell the car and figured the mods were worth more off the car than on it. I've also posted the Bilstein PSS9 coilovers today.

My background is in "car crafting" as much as it is driving and racing. I do all my own work except for precision machining and welding. What is making me absolutely crazy is the lack of tuning software for these cars. Up until the 996, I've tuned all my cars, first with carb jets and distributor advance curves, and more recently with software tools like HP-Tuners. I converted my last two cars to forced induction (belt driven superchargers) and had no difficulty revising the factory ECU to play nice with the engine. When my engine's rev capability finally exceeded the factory ECU's ability to keep up, I converted the car to an aftermarket ECU that I had to program from scratch.

I know I could make my 996tt run better than it does, and faster, if I had a tool that let me twiddle the ECU bits. But I don't.

Someone may bring up the complexity of our ECUs. HP-Tuners software allows one to adjust displacement on demand and continuously variable valve timing parameters in addition to the typical throttle by wire and PID idle control loop parameters. The 996tt ECU is not state of the art.

BTW, my "make the car run better/faster" is in no way dissing UMW. Like all the other vendor/tuners out there, Kevin provides a "mail order" tune for those who are too remote to drive to his shop. He can get your tune close by testing it on a car with similar go-faster equipment, but there's no way it's going to be dialed in to perfection by iterating data logging sessions followed by ECU tweaks. I'm just whining because there is no end-user tool for me to do that dialing-in.
