Default More fault codes from Durametrics

Just got a new fault code in the 996 TT. Durametric reads it as P0420, fault code 40, cat converter efficiency bank 1 and P0430, fault code 45, cat converter efficiency bank 2. Any idea if this is very serious and if car needs to be towed or can codes be erased and car driven to workshop. Thanks in advance. For information, the car is running fabspeed exhaust and cats.

P0420 (40 TWC conversion, bank 1 - above limit) & P0430 (45 TWC Conversion, Bank 2 - Above Limit):
Possible fault cause
♦ Oxygen sensor ahead of and after TWC exchanged
♦ Valve lift fault
♦ Aged oxygen sensor after TWC
♦ TWC faulty

I would first suggest clearing the codes and just running it. If the codes come back you may need to replace the O2 sensors with Bosch replacement.

How long has the exhaust been on the car, and is it relational to the codes appearing??? It might be that the 02s were re-installed in the wrong sequence.. The grey lead wire 02 should be furthest away from the cats I believe... I read somewhere that they will throw codes if installed incorrectly, as they measure different values, related to their position in the pipe.

You can clear (not erase) most (not all) codes by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. If the fault is still there it will throw the codes again. To erase you need a PST2, PIWIS or most can be cleared with durametric software.

Forget about the official Porsche tools, they are very very expensive to lease and pointless given Durametrics can do most of what an enthusiast needs, which is what I believe most of the tech guys on the various forums have been using. I got Durametrics as I just wanted a little idea of what was going wrong with the car before sending it in, and with the help of the tech guys here, can save a lot of time going to the dealer by getting feedback from these guys here before going into the dealership and erasing the codes with Durametrics software and cable where necessary.

PST2 was the predecessor to PIWIS...they are handheld 'computers' that Porsche supplies to their dealers (actually forces them to buy) , allowing them to download software updates, interrogate any network in the vehicle, show realtime status, etc.....

PST2's were relatively affordable and most larger indy's have them.
PIWIS (or PST3 if you prefer) are MUCH more expensive, both initially and for required software subscriptions/updates.

Both have been described in almost all the Rennlist forums.
