Default Dent

Somebody backed into my '04 Turbo Cab today putting a good dent in the front left side. Any good advice around how to handle it? The guy who did it was kind enough to leave a note and thinks he wants to handle it outside insurance.

Also, is this something that reduces the value of the car? Should I be compensated for that by the insurance co.?

Any advice around how to handle it to get it fixed right would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

If he wants to handle it outside insurance....it won't hit the CarFax reports. That's really the only advantage to a solution like that. the problem with that is that sometimes the folks will be all anxious to take care of it till they find out how much it's going to cost them, then the interest drops off and you're left trying to report a post mortem event that happened three days ago...and your insurance company may start wondering what the hell is going on. If you can get a decent estimate of the cost for repairs and get the CASH from the guy by showing him the invoice of estimate....then it might be ok.....but that means you've got to get hustling on the estimate and get the money quickly before his desire runs cold.

How bad is the dent? Did it also do paint damage? If there is no paint damage you may try the a paintless dent company..

Good Luck

Your insurance won't give you one penny more than the estimate, and may insist it be done at a shop of their choice. Personally, for something this small I don't think it effects resale.
If he will write the check, take it and cash it. If there is one minute of reluctance, report it to your carrier. With his note, he will have to admit the accident was his fault. AS
