What about Shark Werks in Fremont. Give Alex a ring, he'll take care of you.

I have the noise and had my dealership check it out, the sa told me it's normal. I was the first to post about this noise years ago.

It was probably considered "normal" until the TSB was issued in 2005.

But still an interesting pole..FWIW.
porsche knows very well about this condition, if not why the tsb...porsche should issue a recall because this is certainly a design or manufacturer defect.

FYI, I believe it also applies to C4S cars, as they have the same pump I believe, (but may not leak in the same proximity to the exhaust).

Does the TSB cover the C4S...if so, we should put a post on the non-turbo 996 forum for those guys to come here to vote....but if not...no. I thought the engines were quite different. Do any other cars use said pump/valve?

The TSB (4897 1/05) applies only to the 996 Turbo/ 996 Turbo w/X50/99r Turbo S, MY01-05. Manual transmission.

"dave1200' just had his TT burn to the ground because of this problem. I'm surprised he didn't see this thread and vote.

Do you actually know this to be fact or are you speculating. My understanding is that the cause is still under investigation.

It might be impossible to figure out....but it seems possible.

Statman, you are right, I am speculating about Dave's fire. I guess I jumped to conclusions based on the thread speculating that the power steering pump caused the fire. I better wait for the official call.

I am waiting too, but if you read the thread and look at the pictures:

1. fire shot out from the back...... likely a fluid..either gas or psf

2. the right side of the car is more melted than the left and the car was pulled over on the right with a relative steep incline to the shoulder....so if the fire was central the left side should be "more melted"....suggesting the fire was a fluid on the right and not the left.....

Just my observations.

JB
