Default Spoiler failure

My car has pre owned warranty from Porsche.

Does this cover failure in the rear spoiler system?

No. The 996TT I just bought had a leaking hydraulic ram discovered during the PPI, and it is not covered under the CPO program.

That is BS. Why not the whole car?

I tend to agree, but this is not uncommon with CPO warranties. Each make has slightly different coverage, but most of them are "Limited" in coverage.

BTW, the bill to replace both hydraulic units was ~$1400. The seller was not pleased....

Received the answer on this from my Porsche dealer.
They claim Porsche only cover the spoiler motor !!

I see in my Pre Owned Warranty booklet that intrument cluster, microsw, spoiler and all el. motors are covered by the guarantee.

But i have a small leak in one hydraulic and this is not covered.

Everything seems to work as it shall do. Spoiler is coming up / going down, but i get the message "spoiler control failure" sometimes

Is there anyway to lock the spoiler in the up position?

FWIW, a Porsche CPO is NOT simply an extention of the original (bumper to bumper) OEM warranty. There are MANY items which are not covered under a CPO; irregardless of model

so true, my rear spoiler was replaced for the very common hydraulic failure.
Approx $1400 but thankfully my aftermarket warranty covered the item.
this is a very common problem in these cars 5-6 yrs old. the new unit appears much more durable but time will tell.

This thread seems to be asking about warranties, and coverage. Are you willing to share which aftermarket product you have? Company? Specific product? Seems unusual that your product covered this problem. Have you had any other claims? and were they also covered? Thanks

its called "total protection plan". i purchased my car from a mercedes dealer in texas and this is the service they use. i got the platinum level so it covers almost everything. if the cost of the item is over $1000 somebody has to come from the company to inspect the car. i have used them for my alternator, a new key (yes a key) and now the rear spoiler. cost for the plan was about $2400 for 2 yrs. so far it has paid for itself.
i don't think you can buy the plan on your own. like most they have to come from the dealer when you buy the car.

Can the cylinders be re-built? It is most likely the seal around the main shaft. I would think that this where the wear and dirt damage to the seal happens...

Cylinders can not be rebuilt. The root of the problem is in a seal that is within a pressed together tube.

I have developed what has to be the most economical way to fix the 996tt rear spoiler by fixing it in place. Any Do It Yourselfer can install it and you will be rid of your "failure spoiler control" light and leaky hydraulics for good. My kit keeps the 100% stock look on the outside and other than the removed pump and hydraulic lines, 100% stock look under the decklid. Please see my ebay auction for more info and pictures of the end product. I didn't feel like paying big $$ to fix mine, and came up with an engineered solution. You can choose your desired spoiler height, and even change that height when your mood changes. Each kit includes many height options. Call me at 813-367-7553 or search for "Porsche 996TT 996 Turbo fixed rear spoiler kit" on ebay. I'm ebay member id "sbrtampa".
