Locking gas cap?

Locking gas cap?
All -
I purchased a 2004 996tt in late December, and have been nothing but happy with it. However, I have noticed that there is nothing guarding my gas tank from the random jealous passerby. By that, I mean I can always open up my gas cover by just pushing it - there is no locking mechanism. I did open it up and look inside, and it seems like there is a locking pin in there, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
My question is - is this suppose to work, and when/how? Is there a way to activate it? Or is it just malfunctioning and I need service? Lastly, does anyone think this will be covered under CPO?
Thanks to all in advance.

I have an 03 C4S. I'm sure my locking mechanism is the same as yours. My gas cap cover locks. The pin will engage when the doors are locked. Yours may be malfunctioning.
Also, I am sure that most modern cars have a "grate" or a screen in the fuel line to prevent siphoning. Even my DeLorean has one of those.
I would get your gas cap locking mechanism checked out.
