Modifying rear wheel well liners

If you have modified your rear wheel well liners to accommodate wider tires on hollow spoke 18" wheels, please advise on your process and success. Pictures would be welcome.

I use air tin snips and simply pull the wheels and draw out my mark. I think just run it around the mark and call it a day.
