Post Turbo Timer?

I kind of know what a turbo timer is, but could some one go into some detail of there purpose or how they work. Ive noticed that the turbo timer leaves the car running, or at least it sounds that way when your standing beside it. Wouldnt leaving the car running with no one by it make the car an easy target for theives.
Thanks for the Help

A turbo timer allows your turbo to cool down and get all the oil and pressure out of the turbo after driving. The car is left running but the car will be locked and shut down after a certain amount of time. If you are interested in getting one i have connections and could get you a good deal. I would recommend this to everyone, this extends your turbos life.

Is it possible to fit a turbo timer into the 996TT? I used to have one in my '93 RX-7, and it was a great thing to have when I couldn't stand around the car or was in a rush.

I dont mind waiting 2 min for the Turbo to cool down. But i still like the idea of the Turbo Timer, I just hate leaving the car running when im not around, even if it is locked down. Does the turbo timer work along with the immobiliser.

Thanks Frankie S.

Thanks Frankie S.

It may or may not work with the alarm system. Most alarm systems and immobilisers won't activate if the car is running. Perhaps there is a way to bypass that signal, but I would need to research it first. I had that problem, myself, and would frequently reset my alarm after the turbo timer shut the car off.

Also, you only really need to let your car cool down for 30-45 seconds after a normal drive. The 2 minute plus really isn't needed unless you are driving very hard under boost.

I am not sure how easy it would be to integrate the turbo timer into the Porsche system, though. Most turbo timers are made with the wiring of a Japanese import in mind. Most cars are the same, granted, but wiring harnesses are made for the most popular (3000GT, Supra, Skyline, 300ZX, RX-7, etc).

You would just need to know which wires to tap in relation as they come out of the ECU, typically (voltage, RPM, speedometer, parking brake, etc).

Another thing that you have to remember is that you must put the car in neutral and use the parking brake else the turbo timer won't come on. For some people, that is a risky situation as they don't like to soley rely upon the parking brake when parking on inclines.

Below is a picture of my turbo timer after it just got done counting down the seconds in my previous turbo car:
