Post oil viscosity question

I have had my 996 turbo since Oct 2000. The car says Mobil 1. The manual says 5-40 or 5-50. There is no Mobil 1 of that grade. So now that oil change time is approaching, is there an option besides Castrol Syntec? I am not a fan of Castrol except the smell of Castrol R. Red Line which I use elsewhere also has no oil in this viscosity, nor does it have the lates API specs.

Or am I just being too ****?

All 996's come from the factory filled javascript: x() with 0W40 Mobil 1 oil as of summer 2001. This is the new recommended oil grade. Works pretty well, too

Up until a few months ago getting 0W40 has been a problem. Not anymore --- your dealer should have it in stock. If not, Mercedes Benz uses the same oil. If not, you can search the archives to find a mail-order retailer --- should be around $25 a box of 6.

Hi, our local dealers in germany recommend Mobil 1, Viscosity 0-40. Using this at my C2, 993tt and 996 without any probs. It`s the factory oil.
