Post 993 GT2 vs. 996 GT2

Just got done reading an article in GT Magazine about the 993 GT2. Some of us, including me, have wondered how the 993 compared to the 996 where the GT2 is concerned. Just some of what they said (about the 993):

"Don't-unless you happen to be a GT champion-attempt any tail-out heroics. This car snaps viciously out of line and demands lightning quick reflexes to pull it back into shape. You shouldn't take liberties in the wet either, with so much power and torque eager to erode the traction". And..."It's a scary car, the GT2. It's wickedly quick and intolerant of clumsy behaviour and inattention towards its needs.... but its sharpness and nervousness bring with them an intoxicating sense of danger."

For those of us who have driven the 996 GT2, these sensations may sound familiar. Actually, the writers of the article make it seem like the 996 GT2 is slightly more tame than the 993.

996GT2 is a ***** compared with a 993GT2 - IMHO - When UK mag EVO tested the two, it didn't seem to rate the 996GT2 implying it was tame, in contrast to the 993 whose raw nature appealed to them.

I agree w/ TB, from reading everything I've read on the 2, the 996 GT2 is alot more sophisticated and less raw then the 993 GT2. That's why I sort of laugh when I hear everyone calling the new 996 GT2 a death trap. Everyone is always complimenting on how much more refined the new car is.

But, i've never driven either, so I can't really say

My .02, I have driven a 996 GT2, a 996TT and my car 993TT 430ps, still no 993 GT2.

I can assure you, and maybe I'm starting WWIII here, but the GT2 aint that scary compared to a 993TT. the new turbo is just so FOOL PROOF! No ofense to anyone, but it is true, the dme does so many things for you, even when you turno off the PSM it still lends a helping hand.

On the other hand, the GT2 is a back to basics car, its the car, your abbilities and thats it.

It has been said here before, the GT2 handles very much like the old 993tt. The only difference is that the 993 has a bit of safety margin with its up to 20% of front en power. But it still is A LOT MORE DEMANDING THAN THE 996 TURBO and maybe under certain conditions like the GT2.

I believe the main reason for all the GT2 bad rep, is just that the owners expect the car to do a bit more for them. All new cars even high ende exotics have somekind of driver safety program. I just hope we dont get to a point where we are useless.

And I've also seen mag. reports that clearly showing the old Gt2 to be faster in acceleration, but slower in topspeed. plus it (993 gt2) was a real homologation racing car. Now that is something the new GT2 is missing. at least until now.
