Question X 50 Retrofit

I was under the impression that the X50 option could not be retrofitted, but I found this thread on a different forum

X50

Does anybody know the truth, or has had this done?

From what I know this is not possible....You can not get the X50 kit per se but you could add facotry K24 (GT2) turbochargers and intercoolers and remap the ECU with X50 DME to get the same power output. However, I believe that the X50 and regular TT differ in more than just that and the differences include: beefed up transmission with oil cooler, different exhaust, different alloy induction manifold and I think cylinder heads and camshafts but not toosure on these last two.
According to Porsche, the X50 can NOT be retrofitted on any TT. Only the X51 can be retrofitted on normally aspirated cars.

London996tt, the thread on Flat-6.net you're mentioning isn't a very good reference. The guy talked about X50, but after a while he realized that what he had was the Aerokit, not X50. I personally would take everything the person says with great care...

As msindi said and according to Porsche, a retrofit isn't possible. But if it is, I'd be interested too!

Greetings,

Hi every one, Hi Pierre (you're everywhere), Yes it's truth, the x50 is not only turbochargers, intercooler and ecu, a lot of other things are different. no oil cooler for the transmition, but different heads, cumshafts, eshausts, tranny, clutch, etc...

I dunno if this is really far fetched or not, but at one time I was chatting with a mechanic who works for the local P-dealer, and the X50 option came up... he said that no matter what the sales literature says, the X50 996TT has the same engine as the GT2, not the normal 996TT engine with modifications. Of course I have no way to prove this, but I also have no reason to doubt what he said. Anybody got access to 996TT, X50 TT and a GT2? Could be easy to check if it's really like this..

Thats nothin new. It has long been known that the X50 engine is the same as the GT2. The only difference is the Gt2 is tuned to 1.0 bar on boost.
