Red face Black deposit on tail pipe?

I've driven my new X50 TT for 1000 miles now. Noticed that there is black fine dust like deposit on the tail pipe. Seem like some black smoke came out of the exhaust and caused it.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

black deposit/smoke usually means that the car is running just a tad rich sometimes. On turbocharged cars this is even more prevalent. Often on cold starts it'll puff some black smoke and especially under hard acceleration and full boost between shifts the car will run just a tad rich as the fuel system backs up real quick while the throttle is slammed shut and it'll puff some black smoke. Really not a big deal.

After 2300 miles, the tailpipes got pretty crusty. Black deposits and burnt appearance.

I used Mother's Aluminum polish and had a great restoration.

Does anyone have those $500 Porsche stainless pipes? DO they discolor like the stock ones? <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

I have the optional chrome exhaust tips (X54) and, yes, they accumulate black exhaust emission residue. Easy to clean with a good metal polish.... No lasting damage.

Cool

I saw the upgrade figure 8 tail pipes on a TT powder coated flat black... looked very hot and no need to worry about cleaning them or hem turning colors.
