Post V1 mirror install

Has anyone seen the custom V1 etched into the rearview mirror of a 996 on www.aidesign.com??
I think that it is such a cool install and want it to do it until I got their price quote...Anyone know who else can do similar etching (that is I believe the toughest part about it!).
Also, does anyone have other suggestions for a good V1 install?? (the one I posted earlier is nice but I do not want to mess with my instrument cluster!!).
thanx

One major fault in design is that the cops can see the V1 lights from behind. I think you also lose some of the functions with that install.

Hey Guys,
Interestingly enough, I met with Matt (the owner) of AI Design this morning. We discussed the proposed electronics install for my car. I had a chance to sit in the car with V1 mirror install. Here is a photo, taken from their site:

I have to say that I have never seen craftsmanship that superb in all my life. It solidified my decision to contract them. My meeting was kind of an interview.
Keep in mind the mirror install is meant to hide the V1. This means you will need to build the V1 into your car. Supposedly, the radar will pass through the car's plastic and be detected by the V1, the laser detection of the V1 will not work though since it requires line of site.
This also complicates matters if you share the V1 between vehicles.

Where is the V1 main unit in this install?

Is it hidden away somewhere or is it integrated into the front of the rearview mirror?

Please explain.

I am not sure. You would have to ask Matt at AI Design 914-779-9000.

Note that you loose the auto dimming feature of the mirror if you go with this install. I ended up buying the full K40 system.....with two mini LED lights installed on the face of the tachometer. Very clean, stealth install that hasn't let me down in any of the 5 cars I've owned with the K40 system! I can post a pic if anyone is interested.....

Ray,
As I am told by AI Design, you do not lose the auto dim feature. The only change is that the On/Off/Vol **** must be located someplace other than the bottom of the mirror.

Thanks for the update, Ken....they must have updated their technique to retain that function. I last looked into the "V1 in mirror" concept a couple years ago, at which time I was told it was necessary to install a conventional mirror.

BTW, very sharp car....and great color choice!! What percent tint did you go with for the windows??

Regards,

Ray,
Thanks for the compliment. Did you look at the photos in my link? If you do (did) make sure you click on the text under the photos. It will take you to more photos. I bought it with the tint in Florida. I couldn't tell you what % it is. I can say it is a pain in the _ _ _ regarding NJ inspection though!!!! See my other post on that whole issue!!
